Jim Whitt's graveside service was held in Chatsworth, CA, on February 5th, 2018. The service was well attended and included several USS LA sailors. Jim's division officer Tom Penderghast gave a tribute and a trumpet player played The Navy Hymn and Taps. RIP, shipmate.

Norm Booth called and informed me that Jim Whitt passed away Friday,
January 26th. Norm does not have any information as to when the
service will be held. All he knows is that it will be soon, and it will
be in Chatsworth, CA, which is in the Western part of the San
Fernando Valley. Norm will let me know further details, as he
receives them.
For those who didn't know, Jim had had pancreatic cancer for about a
year.
Jim was a SM3 on the USS LA from 1958 to 1960. Jim helped Norman Booth put on the 1995 USS LA reunion in San Pedro; Jim was president of the USS LA Association from 2003-2005. Jim and Norm organized the San Pedro Roundups which were held from 2002 to 2016 at a San Pedro hotel and the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. Jim was president of the 'Friends of the LA Maritime Museum' (Norm is also a board member). Jim was a super-volunteer and was also involved in his local Navy League chapter. He was a fine Christian man and had a great family. Rest in Peace, shipmate.
